Our History
We started out as a small hardware store in Brightborough way back in 1969. Our founder, Bill Quinton, wanted to provide his local community with quality tools and materials at affordable prices. As word spread about Bill’s store, more and more people started visiting. Before long, Bill had to expand into the vacant storefront next door.
The 70s saw incredible growth for our little shop. We opened new locations in nearby towns and cities. More products were added to meet demand. Our catalog mailers became famous in the region for their catchy slogans like “B And Q – We Make It And You Quake It.” Yes, advertising was very different back then!
In the 80s, Bill brought his son Quinn onboard. Quinn had a passion for home improvement and introduced workshops to teach people useful DIY skills. Quinn also pioneered our home delivery service, allowing us to send large items like appliances directly to customers’ homes.
The 90s and 2000s were periods of rapid expansion. We opened bigger warehouse-style stores across the country. Our online store launched, making over 100,000 products available for delivery. Bold branding campaigns made B And Q a household name.
Today, we operate over 300 stores. Our website processes thousands of orders daily. The company Bill started in a small shop is now the leading home improvement retailer in the nation. But our roots remain firm – we still provide quality and value above all else.
