As the weather warms up, it’s the perfect time to give your outdoor space a makeover. And what better way to enhance your garden or yard than installing a stylish new fence? With so many options to choose from, I decided to check out the selection of fence panels at B&Q to find the perfect fit for my home.

Comparing the Different Types of Panels

B&Q has a great range of fencing to meet various needs and budgets. I found they stock fence panels made from wood, metal and PVC, with prices spanning from budget to premium.

The wooden panels come in featheredge, overlap and closeboard styles. I like the natural look of wood, but know it requires more maintenance to keep looking its best. The metal and PVC panels would be more durable, with textured finishes that mimic woodgrain. There are also decorative iron-effect and emerald green metal panels that would really make a statement.

For privacy, the closeboard and panelled featheredge styles provide a solid barrier. But if I want more visibility, palisade or picket fencing could work well. It’s great to have options to suit gardens of all sizes.

Making Sure They’re Fit for Purpose

With British weather, I’ll need fence panels that can withstand the elements. Luckily, most of B&Q’s panels are pressure treated, meaning they are protected from rot and insect damage. For even more weather resistance, I could opt for the Heavy Duty overlap panels or Finished Treated deal fencing which come with factory applied paint or stain.

The standard panel height is 1.8m but taller 2.4m styles are available if I need to boost security and privacy. I took measurements to check which size would be best for dividing or bordering my outdoor space. The width of panels ranges from 1.2m up to 2.4m. I considered which would provide the right coverage while still being manageable to handle and install.

Getting Them Delivered and Installed

At over 6 feet long, fence panels can be cumbersome for transporting in an average car. Helpfully, B&Q offer delivery starting from just £5 to get them on site. I could also take advantage of their installation services to have the new fence fitted by a professional for a hassle-free solution.

If I want to DIY, B&Q have all the posts, braces, nails and paint I need to finish the job. I watched some of their online tutorials for tips on correctly measuring, levelling and erecting a sturdy, long-lasting fence. It looks straightforward enough but having an extra pair of hands will definitely help!

Finding the Right Panels for My Garden

After exploring the range, I’ve decided on the Finished Treated overlap panels in a muted green tone. Their pre-treated woodgrain finish means minimal upkeep while bringing warmth and texture to my garden. At 1.8m tall they will allow sunlight through while providing privacy from neighbouring properties.

The overlap boards create an attractive feature that breaks up the solid fencing. And with the fence paint already applied, I can install them straight away without extra hassle. I’m excited to pick up my panels this weekend and reinvent my outdoor space. B&Q’s fence range has everything I need to create the garden of my dreams!
